![]() The summer kitchen room where we stayed was an enormous two story suite, essentially a private country house completely separate from the main inn and restaurant. My wife and I just spent our first anniversary here at the Inn and were not disappointed. To those reviewers critical of things like stink bugs: it's the country choose the city if you can't cope. The innkeepers and their staff aim to please. But more importantly, the Inn is so lovely that it will tempt you to just stay put, and enjoy a languid time sitting in Adirondack chairs enjoying the view, or by a fire indoors in winter. The Inn is only a few miles to Orange, which has a couple of fantastic antiques shops (visit Gale at Melrose Antiques!) and an art gallery or two a couple of miles further to Gordonsville (among other things home to world-class barbecue) and to Montpelier, for those seeking a bit of history and maybe a fifteen-minute drive to Culpeper, whose downtown is now revived and offers a host of browsing and dining options. The Inn at Meander Plantation is exceptionally redolent of old Virginia, with stunning architecture, a gorgeous setting, almost entirely uncorrupted views of the foothills of the Blue Ridge. We love inns of character, where you know where you are in the world. Overall, would highly recommend this place and hope to return again in the future. If you are looking for dinner in and out in 45 minutes this is not your place - but if that is your mindset the whole Bed & Breakfast concept is not for you. Service at dinner was good - keep in mind that there is a wait staff of two for ten or so couples so dinner is closer to a two hour experience. Being from DC, many of times I have paid well over $65 per meal and had it not be nearly this good. One night we did do the dinner at the inn, which I thought was also very good. Breakfast was incredible and we loved the muffins each morning along with the main course options for the day. Bathroom was modern and linens were high quality and warm. Despite it being one of the coldest weekends all winter, the room was not freezing or drafty so I assume significant effort was put into insulating the original structure. We stayed in the Robinson room with the wood fireplace. From the time we checked in, the staff was very accommodating from requests for ice and glasses for the champagne we brought to showing us to our room. We stayed here over the Valentine's Day weekend and had a great time. Take care, Chris Seek, Owner & Managing Director and the rest of the Meander team Thanks again for your support of The Inn and Tavern at Meander. We hope you will return again soon and see all of our improvements and enhancements to the property. Due to many kind 5-star reviews from supportive guests like you, we made it through the pandemic!
